HMS Matchless by Ivan Berryman.

The destroyer HMS Matchless is shown turning at high speed off the Devon coast in June 1946. this elegant ship acquitted herself well during the Second World War, being involved in the hunt for - and ultimate sinking of - Scharnhorst in 1943.

Three Lions by Ivan Berryman.

Representing three distinctive types operated by the Royal Navy in the 1980s, HMS Invincible (RO5) is depicted in company with HMS Naiad (F39), an Ikara Leander frigate and the unique Type 82 destroyer HMS Bristol (D23).

Dunkirk by Ivan Berryman.

Between 24th may and 4th June 1940 an extraordinary armada of craft, large and small, naval and civilian, embarked on one of the greatest rescue missions in history. the evacuation of 330,000 British and French troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in northern France. the destroyer HMS Shikari dominates the foreground here as troops pour onto the beaches and harbour moles in search of salvation. MTB are seen picking up troops and taking them to ships further out including MTB102. Also shown is a paddle steamer with very shallow draft taking on troops close to the beach and in the distance HMS Grafton can be seen taking troops from the mole. She was lost later during the evacuation.

Veterans of the Med by Ivan Berryman.

Alone in the aerial defence of Malta in the early part of WW2, these three Gloster Gladiators, nicknamed Faith, Hope and Charity, saw such intense action against the invading Italian air force that the enemy's commanders were convinced that a much bigger force existed on Malta. They are depicted here making a low pass over the destroyer HMS Dainty as she heads out of Grand Harbour from Sliema Creek. Herself a veteran of much action in the early part of the war, HMS Dainty was lost to dive bombers off Tobruk on 24th February 1941.

HMS Resolution at Gibraltar by Ivan Berryman.

Launched in January 1915, the Revenge-class battleship HMS Resolution was to enjoy a 33 year career during which she served in the Atlantic, home and Eastern Fleets as well as serving repeated spells in the Mediterranean, being both bombed and torpedoed along the way. She is depicted off Gibraltar with HMS Wolverine, the destroyer perhaps best remembered for destroying the U-47 which sunk Resolutions sister ship Royal Oak in Scapa Flow.

HMS Bristol departing Portsmouth by Ivan Berryman.

The only Type 82 destroyer to be built for the Royal Navy, HMS Bristol (D23) was designed for a role that never materialised, the rest of her class being cancelled when the intended CVA-01 class of aircraft carriers that she was intended to escort and defend were themselves cancelled in the late 1960s. Bristol enjoyed a long and varied career however, her size making her a suitable flagship for Operation Ocean Safari 81 before going in for a refit and joining the Royal Navy Task Force in the South Atlantic during the Falklands Campaign. Paid off in 1991, she is now moored permanently at Whale Island, Portsmouth, as a training ship. HMS Bristol is depicted here slipping quietly out of Portsmouth Harbour in the 1970s.

HMS Daring was officially handed over to the Royal Navy on 10th December 2008 and is depicted here in liaison with a Merlin helicopter.

Hugely out-gunned and already crippled, Glowworms captain, Lieutenant-Commander Roope rammed his destroyer into the side of the Admiral Hipper, inflicting a 40 metre rip in its armour belt before drifting away and exploding. 38 British sailors were rescued from the sea and Roope was awarded a posthumous VC for his bravery, the first earned by the Royal Navy in WWII.
