HMS Formidable the Illustrious class Aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy, Built by Harland and Wolff, and launched 17th August 1939 and commissioned 24th November 1940, When she joined the Navy she replaced HMS Illustrious in the Mediterranean in early 1941.One of her aircraft torpedoed and damaged the  Italian battleship Vittorio Veneto  on the 28tjh march 1941. her aircraft also contributed to the destruction of three Italian Cruisers the following day during the Battle of Matapan. by torpedoing the Cruiser Pola with a torpedo allowing the British Battleships to finish her off. On the 26th may 1941  HMS Formidable was damaged by two 1,000 KG bombs due to this damage she was out of action for 6 months. She continued in service in the Mediterranean until  joining the Home fleet at the end of  1944. after which she joined the Far East fleet in 1945. In May 1945 she was hit by a Kamikaze nut not seriously damaged. After the war she was placed in the reserve fleet in 1947 finally being sold in 1953 and scrapped in November 1956 at Inverkeithing

With HMS Warspite keeping a watchful eye off her port bow, the Illustrious class carrier HMS Formidable prepares to recover a Fairey Albacore TB MK1 of No. 826 sqn. following a vital sortie against Italian shipping at the start of the Battle of Cape Matapan in march 1941. Led by Lt Cdr W G H Saunt DSC, Formidables Albacores launched torpedo attacks on the battleship Vittorio Veneto, seriously damaging her, despite coming under intense anti aircraft fire and a splash barrage of 15-inch shells.

View All		 One of 6,176 Halifaxes built during World War II, NA337(2P-X) was shot down over Norway on 23rd April 1945. In 1995 it was recovered from the lake that had been its watery home for fifty years and has now been restored by the Halifax Aircraft Association in Ontario, Canada.

Half Price - £40.00 		The B-17 Flying Fortress 'Memphis Belle' returns from one of her 25 mission over France and Germany. Memphis Belle, a B-17F-10-BO, USAAF Serial No.41-24485, was supplied to the USAAF on July 15th 1942, and delivered to the 91st Bomb Group in September 1942 at Dow Field, Bangor, Maine. Memphis Belle deployed to Scotland at Prestwick on September 30th 1942 and went to RAF Kimbolton on October 1st, and then to her permanent base at Bassingbourn on October 14th.1942. Memphis Belle was the first United States Army Air Force heavy bomber to complete 25 combat missions with her crew intact. The aircraft and crew then returned to the United States to promote and sell war bonds. The Memphis Belle B-17 is undergoing extensive restoration at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

The element of surprise was so complete that the submarines guns remained unmanned throughout the action.

View All		 At the moment the Mahdists broke into the corner of the square against the Heavy Camel Regiment. 17th January 1885. Interesting note: a detachment of two officers and 44 men from the Scots Greys formed part of the Camel Corps in Egypt, and went through the desert march and took part in the battle of Abu Klea. At that affair one officer and 12 men were killed and three more men died of disease.

Half Price - £33.00 		Landing and taking off from the hillsides, rather than established airfields, this was extremely dangerous work which involved the pilot following the terrain and contours of the land that was being dressed in order to ensure an even distribution of the chemical. Australian-born Jim McMahon, served during World War II on B.25 Mitchell bombers before pioneering crop dusting and topdressing in New Zealand with ex-military De Havilland Tiger Moths which he converted himself for the purpose. He went on to form a company called Crop Culture, which specialised in aerial spraying equipment, both in New Zealand and in the UK, before becoming a partner in the newly-formed Britten-Norman aircraft company which produced the Islander and Trislander utility transport aircraft in England.
