Max Lagoda | Oberfeldwebel Max Lagoda Joining up in 1939 he underwent instruction as a Wireless Operator. After completing his flight course he joined Fernaufklärere 2(F) Ob.d.L, a reconnaissance Sqn in France, becoming one of the few radio operators in the Luftwaffe trained to operate specialist reconnaissance Ju88s. Almost immediately the unit was sent to East Prussia ready for the invasion of Russia, where he flew 161 combat missions including operations over Leningrad, the Crimea and the Caucasus. In 1943 he was transferred back to Germany as an instructor and commanded an anti-aircraft unit before being taken PoW in April 1945. |
