Part of a series of Trafalgar paintings by Ivan Berryman, featuring HMS Victory, Nelson, and the British, French and Spanish ships of the Battle of Trafalgar. Proud flagship of Admiral nelson at the battle of the Nile. HMS Vanguard is pictured lying near the entrance of Portsmouth harbour at sunset in company with another Nile veteran HMS majestic. vanguard one of fourteen 3rd rate 74,s penned by the famous ship designer Slade was launched in 1787 and enjoyed a long and eventful career under numerous Commanding officers. in various roles until finally being broken up in 1821.. |

Various shots of HMS Victory of particular relevance to this artwork, taken by Ivan Berryman, about 2002 - 2003. The sole surviving British warship of this time, and restored her former glory, this museum provides great insight into not only HMS Victory, but many of the other ships of the time.
