Sleeping Giants/ Mighty Locomotives B16 (B16, V2s and A1s) by Ivan Berryman. In an era long past. Mighty locomotives, done for the day, sit evocatively amid taut beams of sunshine as their dying fires are raked over and their steam valves opened. All members of a once great and noble family, a B16, two V2s and two A1s share the brooding silence together as if in contemplation of more modern times. |
Iron Workhorse by Ivan Berryman. Watched by the Estate Foreman, nattily decked out in Plus Fours, a Clayton and Shuttleworth steam traction engine is prepared in the morning sun for a days work hauling logs and providing the drive for much of the estates machinery, both in the timber forests and on the surrounding farmland. |
Yarmouth Station by Ivan Berryman. O2 class 0-4-4T No.29 Alverstone gently approaches Yarmouth Station in the summer of 1952 with a train from Newport to Freshwater. Just one year later this picturesque station was closed as the British Transport Commissions axe fell on branch lines around the country. |
Bournemouth Belle by Ivan Berryman. Merchant Navy No35018 British India Line departs pulling the Bournemouth Belle in 1958. |
West Coast Express by Ivan Berryman. (P) A locomotive pulling the Cornish Riviera Express service emerges from a tunnel on its way to the final destination of Penzance. This service ran from 1904, converting to diesel in the late 1950s and the route is still serviced by high speed trains today. |
Winter Express by Ivan Berryman. (P) The Jubilee Class locomotive 'Leander' LMS 5690 in Crimson Lake livery pulling an express through a crisp, snowy landscape. This locomotive served from 1936 until 1948 as No.5690 then was renumbered No.45690 and served until 1964. She was later restored to running condition and carried this crimson livery once again until a refit in 2012 saw her painted black. Original painting on stiff acrylic paper. |
St Helens Station 1953 by Ivan Berryman. Passengers on St Helens Station await the arrival of the train from Bembridge in the early summer of 1953. Just months later this picturesque station and its branch would be closed forever, the busy quayside being superceded by the modernised Medina Wharf near Cowes. |
